RIVER DOVE AND CHURNET

The River Churnet and River Dove meet near Rocester and form part of the boundary between Staffordshire and Derbyshire, we control about 600 yards of the Churnet upstream from the confluence with the Dove and then 400yards downstream to the roadway and then a further 300 yards downstream to the upper limit of the JCB AC stretch. Notices are in place.
The river Churnet is about 10 to 12 yards wide, there are no fixed pegs, there is a mixture of deepish bends and shallow runs typical of this type of river. At the confluence the Churnet meets the River Dove at this point there is one of the deepest holes of around 12ft deep, again there are no fixed pegs but it becomes noticeable where people fish. The main species are Chub to 6.5lbs+, Rainbow and Brown Trout, Grayling and Perch to a good size. There is also a small chance of picking up a barbel but probably not worth targeting on there own merit. in the last year there have been reports of Dace being caught.
Please note that the Enviroment Agency has been stocking the river system with Salmon and some have been caught on this river system.
On the bank 2022
At last the Rivers are open again (June 16th) and what a start to the season with the water level up by 1.6m. there as been some anglers on the water catching the usual range of Trout and Grayling but there is also small chub and dace been caught. Please note that Bamfords Farms have started to cut the hay fields (18.06.19) so access to the pegs will be easier. it is hoped to strim some pegs in July and also have a couple of Balsam bashes, dates TBC
